Effective Jan. 2, 2026, Platts has updated the IODEX benchmark quality specifications to better reflect the actual specifications of cargoes trading in the spot market, following implemented degradations to mainstream Australian medium grade iron ore fines in 2025. While the spot market is gradually transitioning to 61% Fe basis pricing, Platts continues to support the market with the publication of transitional assessments, which began even before the specifications update was implemented.
