Malaysia’s upstream sector is at a pivotal juncture

As output from a mature province declines, policymakers and industry participants are seeking to balance near term production resilience with longer term reinvestment and renewed exploration momentum. Recent discoveries, evolving fiscal and contractual structures, and a growing emphasis on collaboration are going to be critical anchors to sustain production volumes.

This webinar will examine Malaysia’s upstream outlook through the lenses of production sustainability, investor appeal, competitive dynamics, and the strategic significance of the 2026 licensing round. It will explore how exploration results, regulatory reforms, and alternative entry pathways such as M&A and partnerships are influencing investor interest.

The webinar will also assess whether the upcoming bid round can broaden participation and support Malaysia’s goal of sustaining production at approximately 2 MMboe/d over the medium to long term.

What You Will Discover:

  • What is the current state of play in Malaysia’s upstream sector?
  • Is Malaysia fostering an attractive environment for upstream investors?
  • Which players are growing their presence in Malaysia, and how is competitive landscape evolving?
  • Will the 2026 bid round broaden participation and sustain interest?
